Susan (Stine) Melgares ran cross country and track for the Hornets from 1985-90. The Yates Center native and Prairie View HS graduate was a four-time All-American at ESU. She led the E-State women's cross country team to a runner-up finish at the 1986 NAIA National Championships.  Individually she was a five-time District 10 champion in track or cross country, while her teams won four District 10 titles.  A school record holder int eh 5,000 meters and the two-mile run, Stine was an NAIA Academic All-American in 1987 and an NAIA Cross Country Scholar-Athlete in 1989.  She was named ESU Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 1987.
