Hall of Fame
Keith Caywood earned letters in three varsity sports--four each in football and basketball, and two in track & field. During his football career from 1938-1941, he was named to the all-conference and all-state teams three years each. As a sophomore, he led the conference with 93 points and once scored 35 points against crosstown rival College of Emporia. Twice he was an all-conference basketball player. In track, he won the conference long jump title the first time he tried the event. Caywood returned to Emporia State University in 1946 as an assistant basketball and football coach. He later served 12 years as head football coach and 13 years as golf coach. His golf teams won four conference and three District 10 titles and once finished seventh nationally. Caywood also served as ESU’s first men’s athletic coordinator.
