Sarah Wuertz was a three-time All-American and five-time MIAA Champion for the Hornets. She was the Ken B. Jones Award winner as top female student-athlete in the MIAA as a senior. The Richmond, Kan. native set an Emporia State and MIAA record in the high jump when she cleared 5-08 at the 2002 indoor conference championships. She won three MIAA Championships in the heptathlon and is one of only two women in conference history to accomplish that feat. She was a first-team Academic All-American and the 2003 Kansas NCAA Woman of the Year following her senior year.
