Breidenthal was a tremendous supporter not only of the Lady Hornets and Emporia State, but of college athletics as a whole. He donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Emporia State athletics over the years and his foundation continues to do so after his untimely death in 2015. A 1972 graduate of then KSTC, Breidenthal served on the ESU Foundation Board before becoming a Trustee Emeritus, was on the Emporia State Alumni Board, and had been on the Kansas City, Kan. USD 500 School Board since 1983. While on campus in Emporia he was member of Blue Key and Associated Student Government as well as being a yell leader for the Hornets. A world traveler who visited 67 countries during his life and was at ten different Summer Olympic Games was a fixture at the MIAA Tournament since it first went to Kansas City in 2003. His love of travel was evident early as he hitch-hiked across Kansas to follow the Hornet football team in the Boot Hill Bowl in Dodge City.
