Lindell Petty played football from 1935-38 and was named to all-conference and all-state teams as a sophomore.  He was selected as member of Fran Welch’s all-time "Dream Team."  Petty returned a kickoff 101 yards for a touchdown against Superior Wisconsin Teacher’s College in 1938.  In 1937 against Pittsburg State, he set a school record by rushing for 307 yards, which was the top man until 1986. Petty is still considered to be one of the greatest rushers ever to wear an Emporia State University uniform.
