Zickefoose played football for the Hornets from 1976-79. A native of Shawnee, he led the Hornets in rushing, scoring, and kick returns all four seasons. An All-American in 1979, he left school as the all-time leading rusher and all-purpose performer. He rushed for 1,033 yards as a senior, becoming just the third Hornet to accomplish that feat at the time, earning first-team All-District and All-CSIC honors. He also became the first ESU football player to accumulate more than 1,000 all-purpose yards in each of his four seasons. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1980. A four-time All-CSIC choice, he also set a school record for all-purpose yards against Doane in a 30-27 ESU victory. He was named to the ESU Centennial Football team in 1997 as one of the top 25 players in the history of the program.
