Russ Jenkins was a standout defensive end for the Hornets from 1969-73. He earned four varsity letters in football. Jenkins earned first-team All-Great Plains Athletic Conference, as voted on by both players and coaches, in 1973. He also excelled in the classroom, earning G.P.A.C. academic honors in 1972 and 1973.
Jenkins led the Hornets to a 14-5 record over the 1972-73 season. The 1972 team qualified for ESU’s second bowl appearance, the Boot Hill Bowl, played in Dodge City.
Following his athletic career at ESU, Jenkins settled here and is now a prominent Emporia businessman.
