Fred L. Kipp began his Emporia State University athletic career in 1950 after transferring from Kansas State University. He lettered four years in basketball and three years in baseball. The school did not have baseball his senior season. Kipp was a two-time all-conference selection and pitched a no-hitter as a freshman. Kipp went on to a successful professional baseball career that included stops in several U.S. cities and foreign lands, including Canada, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Japan. In 1953, Kipp began his professional career in the New York Yankees, Brooklyn Dodgers, and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations, including just under two years in the major leagues.
