Walters was the head softball and volleyball coach at Emporia State from 1981-87.  The Beattie native and ESU graduate was twice selected NAIA National Softball Coach of the Year after leading E-State to the NAIA National Softball Championship in 1983 and 1984. Walters was named the District 10 Volleyball Coach of the Year in 1987 after leading E-State to a 41-25 record.  She coached a total of twelve All-Americans including three Academic All-Americans during her tenure at Emporia State.
