Lesha "Wood" Baker was a standout in track & field and cross country from 1980-84. Her most notable honor was earning all-America honors on seven different occasions. While participating in cross country national meets, she placed fourth in 1980, tenth in 1981, and eighth in 1982. Baker dominated indoor track & field while at ESU. In 1981, she placed second nationally in the 1500-meter run and third in the 3000-meter run. In 1983, she placed fifth in the 1500-meters. During the outdoor track seasons of 1981-82, Baker was an all-American in the 1500-meters, placing fourth. In 1982, she was a member of the two-mile relay team which placed third at the national meet. In 1984, she received NAIA Academic All-America honors as well as being named Kansas FCA College Female Athlete of the Year.
