Gottlieb Richmond was a four-year football letterman from 1924-27 and was captain of the 1926 squad. He was a member of Emporia State University’s only undefeated teams in 1926 and ’27. Twice he received all-conference recognition and once was selected to the all-state team. In 1925, Richmond had the distinction of playing every down in eight games as a guard and end. He has a distinguished coaching career at the high school level. During one 10-year period, his cross country and track & field teams won five state championships in Oklahoma. Richmond also coached basketball and football at the prep level and at one time his team won 24 consecutive games.
