Hall of Fame
Although Charles Sanger won seven varsity letters in football, basketball, and track at Emporia State University, he is best known as the leader of the 1950 ESU Central Intercollegiate Conference Championship football team. Sanger played both offense and defense for the Hornets. He was named to many all-conference and all-state teams during his career at ESU, including the Associated Press Little All-American team in 1950. After graduation, Sanger was invited to try out for several professional football teams, but instead was drafted by the United States Marines. After serving his country for two and a half years, Sanger began an illustrious career as a Kansas high school coach. Sanger currently serves as director of parking for the Kansas City Royals and Manager of the visitors clubhouse for the K.C. Chiefs.
