Ernest Lee Haring was a standout track performer during the mid 1930s at Emporia State University. He lettered in track from 1932-35 captured six conference titles in the high and low hurdles, and was the high point man with 11 1/2 points at the 1934 C.I.C. meet. He served as the track captain of the 1934 squad, and later that year, picked up a sixth-place finish at the National Championships in Los Angeles. Haring was the first hurdler in school history to eclipse the 15-second barrier. He also picked up second-place finishes in the Drake and Kansas Relays. Haring was a member of the first shuttle relay team to break the 60-second barrier at the 1934 Drake Relays. He also was a tremendous student, placing on the Dean’s Honor Roll and the National Collegiate Honor Roll, and he was elected to Kappa Delta Pi.
