Menzo Hainline was a two-sport standout from 1925-28, earning three letters in football and four in track & field.  He received all-conference honors two years and all-state recognition once as a defensive end in football.  He was a member of Emporia State University’s only two undefeated football teams in 1926 and ’27.  He also helped the track team win conference titles the same years, competing in the sprints and relays.  One of those relay teams won championships at the Drake, Kansas, and Illinois Relays.  He was a member of coach Bill Hargiss’ mythical all-star football team and was tabbed "the best defensive end" Hargiss had ever coached.
