Sevier was an indoor All-American as part of the Hornets 1974 4x400m relay team. He set the school record in the outdoor 400m at the Great Plains Athletic Conference championship meet in 1975 and is still currently ranked second all-time at Emporia State. He was a multiple conference champion in relays and won the GPAC 400m individual title in 1974 before setting the school record at the event in 1975. He was named a University Service Citation Award winner in 2015 for his work in developing the Emporia Connection Nationwide Alumni Chapter.
