April 30, 2021-In the final action before the MIAA Championships, Emporia State track & field had ten event championships and three provisional qualifiers at the Alex Francis Classic in Hays, Kan.
 
Travis Morrison had another big throw for the Hornets as he won the men's shot put.  He went 59-2.75 (18.05m) to win the event and move up to eighth on the national list as of Friday night.  He is just the third Hornet to go over 18 meters in the shot put.
 
Staying in the throws, Alyssa Conway turned in another provisional qualifier as she won the women's hammer.  She threw 187-4 (57.11m) to win in a field that included three of the top 12 women's hammer throwers in the nation.
 
Clara Eilert had the other provisional qualifier for the Hornet women.  She cleared 5-07.00 (1.70m) to finish third in Hays and move into a tie for 16^th in the nation in the women's high jump.
 
Emporia State swept the relays at the Alex Francis Classic, winning the men's and women's 4x100m relay and the men's and women's 4x400m relays. 
 
The foursome of Kadaisha Mpwo, Ashley Wildeman, Jazmin Williams, and Clarice Nichols turned in a season's best 48.17 to win the women's 4x100m relay.  The quartet of Juwan Johnson, Jack Watson, Billy Ross Jr., and Tanner Raubenstine also had a season's best, running 41.53 to win the 4x100m relay for the men.
 
Guy Ramos, Brandon Rhone, Hayden Goodpaster and Juwan Johnson won the men's 4x400m relay in 3:17.56 while Linnea Meier, Hannah Schultz, Nora Wheatley and Kennedy Smith ran 4:13.90 to capture the women's 4x400m relay title.
 
Smith and Meier also picked up individual championships for the Emporia State women.  Meier won the 800m in 2:17.23 while Smith ran 1:07.76 to win the 400m hurdles.
 
The hurdle events were good to the Hornet men as well.  Joshua McLaughlin ran 14.99 to win the 110m hurdles and Chase Rooney turned in a championship time of 55.10 to win the 400m hurdles.
 
The Hornets also had seven runner-up and 12 third place finishes in Hays.
 
Emporia State will now gear up for the MIAA Outdoor Championships on May 8-9 in Pittsburg, Kan.
