Ten Provisional Qualifiers on the day for the Hornets

April 16, 2026-Emporia State came away with a championship and third place showing in the team competition, four event championships, seven runner-up finishes and ten provisional qualifiers at the ESU Relays on Thursday at Welch Stadium and Witten Track.
 
Brooks Lowe got things started for the Hornets in the morning when he won the men's javelin. He threw a provisional qualifier of 67.81m (222-05) on his final throw to pass Missouri Southern's Garrett Strange by two centimeters.  
The foursome of Ezekiel Seamster, Israel Domeh, Braden Lipgens, and Alden Mollerus ran 40.74 to win the men's 4x100m relay with the ninth best time in Emporia State history.
 
Connor Deters had another provisional qualifying mark in the men's shot. His mark of 17.73m (58-02.00) put him in second place at the ESU Relays.  
Seamster ran a provisional qualifier of 10.25 to finish fourth in the men's 100m. He is now second all-time at Emporia State behind Ty Anderson's 10.13 set at last year's NCAA Championships. He leads the MIAA and is ranked seventh in the country in the 100m as of Thursday evening. He also finished third in the 200m at 21.16 as well as running a leg on both the winning 4x100m and third place 4x400m relays.  
Seamster was joined on the 4x400m relay by Lipgens, Andrew Holton,and Emannuel Dukpe as they ran a provisional qualifier for 3:11.79 that ranks 22nd in the nation behind ESU's team of Lipgens, Domeh, Holton and Dukpe at last week's Jo Meaker Classic.
 
In the open 400m Dukpe ran a provisional qualifying time of 47.43 to place sixth. Lipgens finished one spot behind him in seventh place at 47.74 to rank eighth all-time in the 400m at Emporia State.
 
Max Neeley had the other provisional qualifier for the Hornet men. He cleared 4.97m (16-03.50) to place fifth in the pole vault and rank 29th in the nation.
 
The Emporia State men got individual runner-up performances from Carson Fouard in a time of 34:24.19 in the 10,000m and Elijah Edwards in the 3000m steeplechase in 10:17.17. They were joined by Evan Benoit and Jack Harty to finish second with a time of 8:19.56 in the men's 4x800m relay.
 
Stella Agbokpah continued her string of breaking school records for the Hornet women.  She won the women's 100m dash in a school record time of 11.41 that ranks fifth in NCAA Division II as of Thursday evening. She also won the 200m in a provisional qualifying time and meet record of 23.27 and was a member of two relay teams that now rank in the top ten at Emporia State.  
Barbara Bentum was second to Agbokpah in the 200m with a provisional qualifier of 23.98 and her time of 55.67 in the women's 400m is the third best mark in Emporia State history. She was also on two relay teams that are ranked in the top ten in Hornet history.
 
In a competition that included the best throw in Division II so far this season, Harper Schoendaller threw 43.34m (142-02) to place seventh in the women's javelin.  The top nine spots in the women's javelin were all provisional qualifiers. Schoendaller is now tied for ninth all-time at Emporia State in the event.
 
Madison Vermetten finished second with a throw of 45.18m (148-02) in the women's discus.
 
Agbokpah and Bentum were joined by Isabella Davie and Mason Bina on the women's 4x400m relay team that finished second in a time of 3:45.68 that ranks sixth all-time at Emporia State.
 
Lou Dumas time of 14.41 placed her eighth in the 100m hurdles on Thursday and is the fifth best time in the event in Hornet history.
 
Mackenzie Sauerwein and Alexia Lewis joined Agbokpah and Bentum to run 46.69 and finish fourth in the 4x100m relay with the seventh best time at Emporia State.
 
Savannah Stewart cleared 3.57m (11-08.50) to place sixth in the ESU Relays and rank ninth all-time at Emporia State in the women's pole vault.
 
Welch Stadium and Witten Track will play host to the high school edition of the ESU Relays on Friday, April 17. Events begin at 10:30 a.m. both on the track and in the field.  The next action for the Hornets will be on Saturday, April 25 when they play host to the Hornet Invite.
