THE TRADITION CONTINUES WITH A TWIST
The Hornets play host to the ESU Relays on Thursday and welcome nearly 1000 high school athletes on Friday.
LAST LAP
Emporia State track and field competed in two locations over the weekend and came away with a combined 11 provisional qualifiers and two more school records.
Jo Meaker Classic
Stella Agbokpah shattered her own school record in the 200m, running 23.07 to finish third on Thursday.
Barbara Bentum also had a personal record running a PQ of 23.87 to rank third all-time at Emporia State. She finished ninth on Thursday.
Israel Domeh edged out
Ezekiel Seamster in the men's 200m with both men recording a 21.02. Domeh was given the edge and finished seventh with Seamster in eighth.
A day after resetting her 200m record, Agbokpah ran 11.57 to place fifth in the women's 100m with another school record and provisional qualifier on Friday.
Isabella Davie turned in the second best point total in school history to place second in the heptathlon. She had a provisional qualifier of 5,057 points to finish second and become just the third Hornet to pass the 5,000 point mark.
The men's 4x400m relay team of
Braden Lipgens,
Israel Domeh,
Andrew Holton, and
Emmanuel Dukpe ran a provisional qualifier of 3:11.22 to finish second.
Dukpe had an individual provisional qualifier and season's best of 46.87 to finish fourth in the men's 400m.
Luke Grace turned in a career best 6540 points to place sixth in the decathlon with a provisional qualfier.
Grizzly Gold Invite
Connor Deters won the men's shot put with a provisional qualifying mark of 18.03m (59-01.75) that will move him into third in the MIAA and seventh in the nation this season. He is currently ranked fourth all-time at Emporia State.
Zach Sulzen-Watson joined Deters with a provisional mark in the shot. He went 16.85m (55-03.50) to finish fourth in the event. He also finished second in the hammer throw with a personal best of 55.04m (180-07) that ranks eighth all-time at Emporia State.
THE COACH
Seth Mischke is in his third year as the head coach for the Emporia State track and field programs. The Hornets have produced six MIAA individual champions, seven First-Team All-Americans and five school records under his leadership. Before coming to Emporia State he spent one year at Chadron State. Eagle throwers earned five All-America awards and four RMAC Championships. Prior to Chadron State, Mischke spent 11 seasons as the head track and field coach at Black Hills State University. The Yellow Jackets produced two individual national champions, 18 All-America earners, 18 conference champions, and more than 100 All-RMAC honorees under his guidance. Mischke was the head coach at St. Cloud State for 12 years. During his tenure at SCSU, the Huskies had 44 All-Americans and one national champion.

Emporia State has combined for 18 provisional qualifying marks in 13 events for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
For the men
Brooks Lowe is ranked seventh in the nation in the javelin while
Connor Deters is seventh nationally in the shot put.
Ezekiel Seamster is eighth in the nation in the 100m and 36th in the 200m.
Emmanuel Dukpe is ranked 19th in the 400m and
Luke Grace ranked 19th in the decathlon.
Zach Sulzen-Watson is 21st in the shot put,
Max Neeley is ranked 28th in the pole vault,
Mitch Budke is 30th in the javelin, and
Israel Domeh rounds out the men's individual qualifers ranking 37th in the 200m. Dukpe and Domeh are joined by

Andrew Holton to rank 20th in the 4x400m relay.
For the women

Isabella Davie is ranked 11th in the heptathlon.
Barbara Bentum is ranked 23rd in the 200m. Harper Schoendaller is 29th in the javelin,
Lou Dumas is 35th in the heptathlon, and
Madison Vermetten ranks 43rd in the discus.
UP NEXT
The Hornets have one more home meet before the MIAA Championships. Emporia State will play host to the one day Hornet Invite on April 25 at Welch Stadium and Witten Track.
A LOOK AT THE ESU RELAYS
There are 16 teams with over 500 athletes entered into the collegiate edition of the ESU Relays while the high school version has 49 schools from three states and nearly 1,000 athletes entered.
The collegiate meet features 38 top 20 marks in NCAA Division II with seven top five performers. Oklahoma Baptist's Jamora Horace is the top women's high jumper in the nation, having cleared 1.83m (6-0) at the Arkansas Spring Invitational last weekend.
Emporia State's
Stella Agbokpah is ranked third in the nation in the 200m with a time of 23.07 at the Jo Meaker Classic last weekend.
Asia Foster of Oklahoma Baptist is third in the 400m with a time of 52.86 at the Bobcat Invitationals on April 2.
The women's javelin has five entrants that are currently ranked in the top 20 this season. Missouri Southern's Adrianne Casey is third at 50.88m (166-11) at the Harding Invitational on March 6 while MSSU's Keilee Johnson is fourth with a throw of 50.76m (166-6) at the Gorilla Classic on April 4.
The top men's entry ins Dwayne Fleming of Oklahoma Baptist who ran a 10.15 in the 100m at the Arkansas Spring Invitational last weekend.
Central Missouri's Nolan Vancauwemberghe is fourth in the nation in the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.77 at the Texas Relays on April 1.
HOW TOUGH IS IT?
There are four MIAA men's teams and three women's teams in the Top 20 of this week's United State's Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Ratings. The Hornet men are ranked #30 while the Emporia State women are ranked #40 nationally as a total of seven men's teams are in the top 50 along with seven women's teams.
PROVISIONAL QUALIFIERS
The Hornets have 17 athletes with 18 provisional qualifying marks in 13 events for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships.
Brooks Lowe is currently ranked seventh in the nation with a provisional qualifying mark of 69.85m (229-08) to win the men's javelin at the ESU Midwest Classic.
Connor Deters is ranked seventh in the nation in the men's shot put after going 18.03m (59-02) to win the Grizzly Gold Invite. He now sets fourth all-time at Emporia State in the event.
Ezekiel Seamster is ranked eighth in the nation and third all-time at Emporia State in the 100m after running a 10.27 at the ESU Midwest Classic. He is also ranked 36th in the 200m with a time of 21.07 at the ESU Spring Open.
Emmanuel Dukpe is ranked 19th in the nation after he ran 46.87 in the 400m that was converted to 46.98 for altitude at the Jo Meaker Classic.

Israel Domeh ran a provisional qualifier of 21.09 to win the men's 200m. He is currently ranked 37th in the nation.

Andrew Holton and Dukpe are ranked #20 after running a 3:11.22 that converts to 3:11.66 for altitude at the Joe Meaker Classic.
Stella Agbokpah is third in the nation in women's 200m and 13th in the 100m. She ran a school record of 23.07 at the Jo Meaker Classic that converts to 23.14 at altitude in the 200m. She ran an 11.58 in the 100m at the ESU Midwest Classic but was clocked at a school record 11.57 that adjusts to 11.60 at altitude at the Jo Meaker Classic.
Isabella Davie scored 5057 points at the Jo Meaker Classic and Multis to rank 11th in the nation in the heptathlon. She is the second Hornet to go over 5000 points in the heptathlon.
Barbara Bentum ran a time of 23.92 at the Jayhawk Spring Fling that is currently ranked #23 in the nation in the 200m. She ran the third fastest 200m in ESU history at 23.87 at the Jo Meaker Classic, but it converts to 23.94 for altitude.
Harper Schoendaller had a provisional mark of 43.15m (141-07) to rank 29th in the nation in the women's javelin.
Lou Dumas had a provisional qualifying total of 4596 points to rank 35th in the nation in the womens heptathlon.
Madison Vermetten went 45.65m (149-09) for a provisional qualifier in the women's discus that ranks 43rd in the nation.
HORNETS IN THE ESU ALL-TIME TOP FIVE OUTDOORS
A total of 17 current Hornets have a combined for 20 top five individual outdoor marks in 15 events all-time at Emporia State with four school records.
Stella Agbokpah has the school record in the 100m with an 11.57 and the 200m after running 23.07 at the Jo Meaker Classic.
Isabella Davie scored 5057 points at the Jo Meaker Classic and Multis this year to rank second in the heptathlon.
Mia Manley cleared 3.87m (12-08.25) at the 2025 ESU Relays to rank second all-time in the women's pole vualt.
Barbara Bentum is ranked third in the women's 200m with a time of 23.87 set at this year's Jo Meaker Classic and ranks fourth in the 100m at 11.71 at the ESU Spring Open.
Emma Bartholome is ranked fifth with a time of 11:54.30 in the women's 3000m steeplechase at the 2025 Midwest Classic. She is red shirting this outdoor season.
Madison Vermetten is ranked fifth with a throw of 52.47m (172-02) in the women's hammer at the 2025 Kansas Relays.
Ty Anderson is the school record holder in the men's 100m at 10.13 at the 2025 NCAA Championships. He is injured and will likely redshirt
Emmanuel Dukpe is the school record holder in the men's 400m with a 46.29 at last year's NCAA Championships.
Dylan Hunter is second in the men's 10,000m after running 30:33.44 at the ESU Spring Open this year.
Jonah Remsberg is second in the men's decathlon with 7,033 points and is fifth in the pole vault after clearing 4.75m (15-07) both at the Jo Meaker Multis last year. He is injured and will likely redshirt
Trenden Collins is ranked second in the men's high jump after clearing 2.14m (7-00.25) at the 2024 Concordia Qualifier. He is recovering from a football injury
Max Neeley is second in the men's pole vault after going 5.08m (16-08) at the Loper Twilight last year.

TRACK TOWN USA - DIVISION II STYLE
Emporia State's Welch Stadium and Zola Witten Track will host the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. It will be the fifth time that Welch Stadium has played host to the national championships.
Welch Stadium previously served as the host site for the National Championships in 1995, 1999, 2006, and 2024 with the first meet in 1995 bringing 450 student-athletes to Emporia. The 2026 meet is scheduled to bring 754 student-athletes, nearly 200 coaches and over 100 officials to the Flint Hills over the Memorial Day weekend.
The 2026 Championships are scheduled for May 21-23.
During championship week, the NCAA Committee will come to Emporia on Monday with the first practice time available on Tuesday. Wednesday of championship week will see a variety of coaches and officials meetings before the actual competition begin on Thursday. The meet will wrap up on Saturday evening.
After playing host to the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Emporia State was the site of the 2025 MIAA Outdoor Championships. It was the seventh time Welch Stadium has served as host of the conference championships since 1997.
HORNET RETURNING PROVISIONALS
Kole Manley was fifth in the nation in the javelin in the regular season with a toss of 70.21m (230-4) at the ESU Relays that ranks third all-time for the Hornets. He is injured and likely redshirting this season.
Brooks Lowe was seventh in the nation with a mark of 69.16m (226-11) at the MIAA Championships to rank fourth all-time at Emporia State.
Ty Anderson was ranked 11th in the nation in the 60m after running a school record 6.68 in the prelims at the MIAA Championships. He finished eighth in the finals with a time of 6.75 at the MIAA Championships. He placed tenth in the 60m at the 2025 Indoor Championships. He was also ranked 35th in the nation in the long jump with a mark of 7.29m (23-11) at the MIAA Championships and 40th nationally with a time of 21.42 in the 200m at the Washburn Open. He will red-shirt this season with an injury.
Jonah Remsberg was ranked tenth in the nation after winning the MIAA Championship in the heptathlon with 5,265 points. He is ranked second all-time at Emporia State in the heptathlon. He was also ranked 46th in the nation in the long jump with a mark of 7.23m (23-8.75) during his heptathlon in Colorado Springs. He will red-shirt this season with an injury.
Connor Deters was 20th in the nation with a mark of 17.38m (57-0.25) in the men's shot put at the Bearcat Invite.
Emmanuel Dukpe was 24th in the nation in the men's 400m after running 47.44 at the MIAA Championships.
Luke Grace scored a 5,135 points at the MIAA Championships heptathlon to rank 25th in the nation.
Israel Domeh ran 21.26 in the men's 200m at the MIAA Championships to rank 26th in the nation. He turned in a 48.09 at the Bearcat Invite to rank 61st in the nation in the men's 400m.
Max Neeley went 4.93m (16-2.00) at the Ichabod Invitational to rank 27th in the nation.
Mitch Budke threw 63.26m (207-6) at the ESU Relays to rank 35th in the nation in the javelin.
Trenden Collins cleared 2.04m (6-8.25) in the high jump at the Bearcat Invite while Will Allen cleared the same height at the MIAA Championships to both rank 38th nationally. Collins may end up redshirting the track season due to an injury suffered during football season.

Ally Trier was 32nd in the nation in the women's javelin with a throw of 43.34m (142-2) at teh MIAA Championships.
Isabella Davie scored a total of 3,470 points in the pentathlon at the MIAA Championships. She was ranked 33rd in the nation.
Madison Vermetten threw 17.41m (57-1.50) in the weight throw at the Ichabod Invitational to rank 35th in the nation.
MIAA PRESEASON POLLS
The Emporia State men are picked for seventh and the women eighth in the MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches Poll. The Pittsburg State men and women are the conference preseason favorites in both polls.
