Travis Morrison had a career best mark in the shot put to highlight Emporia State's final day at the MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday in Pittsburg, Kan. Both the men and women placed ninth in the team scoring.

Morrison fouled on his first two attempts in the shot before getting a mark of 17.50 (57-5) on his third attempt to move up into third place. He again fouled his first two attempts in the finals before unleashing a career best 18.15m (59-6.75) on his last attempt to temporarily move into second place before finishing third.

Nathan Ewing also had a third place finish for the Hornets on Sunday. He cleared 2.03m (6-8) in the men's high jump to get to the podium.

Juwan Johnson and
Tanner Raubenstine both scored in three events on Sunday. Johnson was fifth in the men's 100m in 10.81 and was sixth with a time of 21.82 in the 200m. Raubenstine finished seventh with a time of 10.95 in the 100m and was eighth in 15.19 in the 110m hurdles. They combined with
Jack Watson and Billy Ross Jr. to run 41.89 to place fifth in the 4x100m relay.

Jared Reinke ran a personal best of 3:55.26 to place fifth in the men's 1500m run. The men's 4x400m relay team of
Guy Ramos, Johnson,
Brandon Rhone and
Hayden Goodpaster ran 3:16.01 to place fifth as well.

Rhone and
Davion Scott each turned in seventh place finishes. Scott ran a personal best 54.69 in the 400m hurdles while Rhone was clocked in 49.32 in the 400m.

Matthew Maki rounded out the Emporia State scoring with a time of 14:57.31 to place eighth as the Hornet men scored in the sprints, middle distance, distance, hurdles, jumps and throws during the meet.

For the Emporia State women
Jenna Ramsey came back after winning the 10,000m on Saturday night to finish fourth in the 3000m steeplechase. Her time of 11:16.89 is the third best in Emporia State history. She finished the meet with 15 points, the most by an Emporia State female at the MIAA Championships since
Katie Mona placed second in both the 800m and 1500m in 2012.

Clara Eilert had a provisional qualifier for Emporia State in the heptathlon with a career best 4,584 points. She had career bests in both the long jump and javelin to start the day.
Kynzie Underwood also placed in the heptathlon with 4214 points to place seventh.

The quartet of
Kadaisha Mpwo,
Ashley Wildeman,
Jazmin Williams, and
Clarice Nichols rounded out the scoring on Sunday for Emporia State with a time of 48.30 to place sixth in the 4x100m relay.
Â
For the weekend Emporia State combined for ten provisional qualifiers. The next action could be a last chance meet next weekend to give selected student-athletes one last opportunity to better their position on the national list. As of Sunday evening Emporia State had 16 provisional qualifier with five ranked in the top 16 nationally.

Saturday's Recap
Freshman
Jenna Ramsey capped a good first day for the Hornets with Emporia State's first championship in the women's 10,000m since Kadri Kelve won the event in 2003. The freshman from Hutchinson, Kan. was ranked second in the event entering the championships and ran 37:54.69 to win by over 25 seconds.

Clara Eilert cleared a personal best and provisional qualifier of 5-8.50 (1.74m) to place second in the high jump. She is now tied for second on the Emporia State all-time list with Trish Bahr who went over 5-8.50 at the 1988 NAIA National Championships.
Madison Runnion went over 5-6.00 (1.68m) for another provisional qualifier to place sixth and give Emporia State a total of 11 points in the high jump.

Jazmin Williams turned in a season's best 19-09.75 (6.04m) to hit a provisional qualifier and place third in the long jump.
Â
Alyssa Conway provisionalled in the hammer for the seventh time in seven meets, throwing 180-2 (54.93m) to place fourth.

The women also got a provisional qualifier from
Megan McManis in the pole vault. She cleared 12-1.50 (3.70m) to place tenth in a field that saw the top 12 hit the provisional qualifying mark.

The Emporia State men had athletes advance to the finals in five of the six preliminary events and turned in four NCAA provisional qualifiers on Saturday.

Juwan Johnson and
Tanner Raubenstine both qualified for the finals in two events. Johnson ran the third fastest 100m in Emporia State history as his wind legal 10.40 is second heading into the finals. He then ran a 21.37 to qualify fourth in the 200m. Raubenstine ran a provisional qualifier of 14.39 for the fourth best time in the 100m hurdle prelims. He then joined Johnson in the finals of the 100m in 10.57 to also hit the provisional mark.

Davion Scott rank a personal best 54.25 to qualify for the finals in the 400m hurdles with the sixth best time in the prelims.

Brandon Rhone had the final qualifier for Sunday's finals after he ran a 48.76 in the 400m prelims to finish seventh.
Â
Kaleb Barber scored the only points for the Hornet men on Saturday. He jumped a career best 23-7.25 (7.19m) to place seventh in the long jump.

Carter Swindale had the other provisional qualifier for the Emporia State men after throwing 200-4 (61.06m) to place ninth in the men's javelin.
