January 19, 2024-Emporia State had ten event champions and two provisional qualifiers at the UCM Invitational on Friday evening in Warrensburg, Mo. The Hornet men and women both finished second in the team competition to host Central Missouri.
 
The field events provided both provisional qualifiers.  All-American Travis Morrison had a personal best and provisional qualifier for the NCAA Championships of 18.02m (59-1.50) to win the shot put.  It is the third best mark in Emporia State history behind former national champions Al Feuerbach and Jason Stuke.  He is currently leading the MIAA in the event and ranked fourth nationally this season.
 
Freshman Mele Taula turned in a provisional qualifier in the women's shot put. Her mark of 13.72m (45-0.25) is a provisional qualifier.  It ranks 23^rd in the nation and fourth in the MIAA so far this season.
 
Ty Anderson jumped 6.78m (22-3.00) to win the men's long jump. Jayda Harris won the women's triple jump with a mark of 10.53m (34-6.75) while Ashley Cookson went 10.52m (34-6.25) to finish second in the event.
 
The Emporia State men and women swept two events on the track. Ashley Wildeman ran 26.41 to capture the women's 200m while Isaiah Durman won the men's 200m in a time of 23.34.
 
Tayler Williams ran 11:38.61 to capture the women's 3000m run while Tyler Swift ran 8:43.75 to win the men's 3000m.
 
Jack Watson ran 50.33 to win the men's 400m and then teamed with Jake Johnson, Isaac Tarango and Carter Cox to win the men's 4x400m relay in a time of 3:27.19.
 
The Hornets also had a total of nine runner-up placers and 13 third place finishers.
 
The second place finishers for the women were Wildeman in the 60m, Abigael Reid in the 400m, Madeline Martin in the 800m, Ashley Cookson in the triple jump, Emma Seidl in the shot put, and the 4x400m relay team.  The men got runner-up finishes from Swift in the mile run, Miles Lockridge in the triple jump and the distance medley relay team.  
 
Laruen Carlson in the 200m, Hollie Marlow in the 400m, Mia Manley in the pole vault, and Clarice Nichols in the long jump placed third for the Emporia State women.  The Hornet men go third place finishes from Carter Cox in the 60m, Alsen Mollerus in the 200m, Cooper Schroer in the 800m, Jake Johnson in the 60m hurdles, Luke Grace in the high jump, Fabian Nava in the long jump, Josiah Driggers in the triple jump, Zach Sulzen-Watson in the shot put and the distance medley relay "B" team.
 
Emporia State will be back in action next weekend at the Herm Wilson Invitational in Wichita. The weight throws, triple jumps and women's pole vault along with both 5000m races will be on Friday with the rest of the meet on Saturday at Wichita State's Heskett Center.
