May 7, 2026-Emporia State began last chance weekend by hosting day one of their own ESU Last Chance Multis at Welch Stadium on Thursday.
 
After five events for the men Luke Grace leads the decathlon with 3711 points. The highlight of the day was a personal best by nearly a foot at 12.19m (40-00.00) in the shot put.
 
In the women's heptathlon Abriel Thrash of Southern Nazarene, who is already sixth in the nation with 5267 points at the GAC Championships, leads the competition with 3,322 points. The Hornets Lou Dumas is second with 3212 points and teammate Isabella Davie is in third with 3005 points.
Both Dumas and Davie both had personal bests in three of the five events.  Davie started with a PR of 14.95 in the 100m hurdles and then went 1.64m (5-4.50) in the high jump.  Dumas cleared her person best at 1.61m (5-3.25) in the high jump and then had a career best 12.00m (39-4.50) in the shot put. Both then turned in personal bests in the 200m with Dumas running 25.33 and Davie clocking in at 25.87.
 
The ESU Last Chance Multis will continue on Friday starting at 4:00 p. at Welch Stadium following Special Athletics Track & Field Day.  Emporia State will also have athletes competing in Manhattan, Kan. at the Ward Haylett Invitational at Kansas State.
