February 10, 2023-Emporia State had five top ten finishes and 13 season best performances on day one of the Gorilla Classic on Friday in Pittsburg, Kan.

Abigael Reid had the best individual finish as she placed second with a personal best time of 1:26.75 in the women's 600 yard run. Â
Jasmine Hurla ran a season's best 1:26.75 to place sixth in the event.

Alyssa Conway was eighth with a toss of 16.20m (53-2) in the women's weight throw.

Kadaisha Mpwo advanced to Saturday's semifinals of the women's 60m dash with a season's best time of 7.83 for the 12th best time of the qualifying round.

Xavier Hall led three Emporia State hurdlers into Saturday's semifinals. His time of 8.28 was the third fastest in the qualifying round. He will be joined in the semis by
Jake Johnson who ran 8.40 for the tenth best time in qualifying and
Brock Merz who had a time of 8.54 to qualify 15th for the semifinals.

Will Herron exploded for a personal best throw by nearly six feet in the weight throw. His mark of 17.18m (56-4) was good for 15th overall.

Emporia State will stay in Pittsburg for day two of the Gorilla Classic on Saturday.
