December 3, 2023-In the first action of the 2023-24 indoor season, Emporia State had two provisional qualifiers at the KU Bob Timmons Challenge over the weekend.
 
Aren Trost got things started for Emporia State with a provisional qualifying mark of 4,791 points to finish third in the heptathlon.  He had the best mark of the competition in the shot put and finished second in the 60m hurdles.
 
Travis Morrison finished third overall and was the top collegiate finisher with a mark of 56-10 (17.32m) in the shot put.
 
Braeden Whitehurst had the best finish for the Hornets in Lawrence as he placed second with a time of 8.38 in the 60m hurdles. Jake Johnson rank 8.44 to finish third in the event.  Emporia State also got third place finishes from Luke Gleason in the mile and Antonio Cooper in the weight throw.
 
Clarice Nichols had the top finish for the Emporia State women as she 17-4.25 (5.29m) to place third in the long jump. Madeline Martin and Scarlett Begley each finished fourth in the 800m and pentathlon respectively.
 
Emporia State will not compete again until January 19, 2024 at the UCM Invitational in Warrensburg, Mo.
