MEMORIES ARE MADE IN MAY
Competing on their home track, Emporia State will have it's largest contingent at the national meet since 2014 with a dozen student-athletes selected for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 21-23 at Welch Stadium and Zola Witten Track. The 12 Hornets will compete in ten different events.
WHO MADE IT
The Hornets will have 12 athletes competing at their home venue.
Brooks Lowe is ranked eighth in the nation in the javelin after throwing 69.85m (229-02) at the ESU Midwest Classic. He is joined in the men's javelin by freshman
Grayson Walburn who burst on the scene with a throw of 66.87m (219-05) at the MIAA Championships.
The men's 4x400m relay team of
Braden Lipgens,
Israel Domeh,
Andrew Holton and
Emmanuel Dukpe ran 3:08.77 at the MIAA Championships to rank ninth in the nation.
Connor Deters is ranked tenth in the nation in the shot put with a mark of 18.03m (59-02) at the Grizzly Gold Invite.
Ezekiel Seamster ran 10.25 in the 100m at the ESU Relays to earn a tenth seed at the national championships.
Emmanuel Dukpe is 16th in the nation in the 400m with a time of 46.54 at the MIAA Championships.
Israel Domeh ran 20.89 in the prelims of the 200m at the MIAA Championships and is tied for 21st at the championships.
Four Emporia State women were selected to compete at the national championships.
Stella Agbokpah will be competing in two individual events. She is seeded third in the nation in the 200m with a time of 23.14 at the Jo Meaker Classic and is tied for ninth with a time of 11.41 in the 100m.
Isabella Davie scored 5165 points at the ESU Last Chance Multis to rank 12th in the nation in the heptathlon. She will be joined in the heptathlon by
Lou Dumas who scored 5059 points at the ESU Last Chance to rank 14th in the nation.
Harper Schoendaller earned the final spot for Emporia State with a throw of 45.30m (148-07) in the women's javelin at the MIAA Championships and is seeded 22nd in the field.
THE COACH
Seth Mischke is in his third year as the head coach for the Emporia State track and field programs. The Hornets have produced six MIAA individual champions, seven First-Team All-Americans and five school records under his leadership. Before coming to Emporia State he spent one year at Chadron State. Eagle throwers earned five All-America awards and four RMAC Championships. Prior to Chadron State, Mischke spent 11 seasons as the head track and field coach at Black Hills State University. The Yellow Jackets produced two individual national champions, 18 All-America earners, 18 conference champions, and more than 100 All-RMAC honorees under his guidance. Mischke was the head coach at St. Cloud State for 12 years. During his tenure at SCSU, the Huskies had 44 All-Americans and one national champion.
TRACK TOWN USA - DIVISION II STYLE
Emporia State's Welch Stadium and Zola Witten Track will host the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. It will be the fifth time that Welch Stadium has played host to the national championships.
Welch Stadium previously served as the host site for the National Championships in 1995, 1999, 2006, and 2024 with the first meet in 1995 bringing 450 student-athletes to Emporia. The 2026 meet is scheduled to bring 851 student-athletes, nearly 200 coaches and over 100 officials to the Flint Hills over the Memorial Day weekend.
During championship week, the NCAA Committee arrived in Emporia on Monday with the first practice time on Tuesday. Wednesday of championship week will see a variety of coaches and officials meetings before the actual competition begins on Thursday. Friday night there will be fireworks after the final event. The meet will wrap up on Saturday evening.
After playing host to the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Emporia State was the site of the 2025 MIAA Outdoor Championships. It was the seventh time Welch Stadium has served as host of the conference championships since 1997. Welch Stadium is back on the schedule to host the 2027 MIAA Outdoor Championships as well.
HOW TOUGH IS IT?
There are four MIAA men's teams and five women's teams in the Top 25 of this week's United State's Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Ratings. There are a total of eight men's teams nationally ranked in the Top 35. The Association has eight women's teams ranked, all in the top 50 wiht seven in the top 35. The Hornet men are ranked #27 while the Emporia State men are ranked #32 nationally.
The top mark in the nation is held by an MIAA athlete in 13 different events, eight by the men and five by the women. There are a total of 75 marks by MIAA athletes representing eight different schools ranked in the top eight of the nation with at least one representative in 41 of the 42 events in the national championships program for NCAA Division II. The MIAA has the top "event squad" in 17 different events, ten women and seven men, with four different schools represented. Seven different MIAA schools are ranked in the top five of at least one event group. The event squad list is based on the top four peroformers from a school in one event.
LAST LAP
Emporia State had nine provisional qualifiers, three of which are season bests, at three different meets during Last Chance Weekend.
Isabella Davie and
Lou Dumas both eclipsed 5000 points to finish 1-2 in the heptathlon at the ESU Last Chance Multis at Welch Stadium. Davie totaled 5165 points for the second most in Emporia State history behind Deandra Doubrava's 5394 points she set winning the 1999 NCAA Championship at Welch Stadium. She had person bests in five of the seven events over the two days. Dumas finished second with 5059 points to move into third all-time at Emporia State in the heptathlon. She had personal bests in four of the seven events, ending with a career best 2:32.67 in the 800m.
The Hornets had five provisional marks at the K-State Ward Haylett Invitational in Manhattan, Kan. on Friday.
The men's 4x100m relay team had their best performance of the season, running 40.39 to win the event and move to 24th in the nation as of Friday night.
Israel Domeh finished second with a provisional time of 21.07 in the men's 200m.
Emmanuel Dukpe was sixth with a provisional mark of 46.97 in the men's 400m.
Connor Deters went 17.11m (56-01.75) in the men's shot put to finish second.
Stella Agbokpah had the only individual championship at K-State, running a provisional time of 24.07 in the women's 200m.
Emporia State sent a small group to the PSU Almost Last Chance Invitational in Pittsburg, Kan. and came away with a pair of provisional qualifiers.

HORNETS IN THE ESU ALL-TIME TOP FIVE OUTDOORS
A total of 21 current Hornets have a combined for 27 top five individual outdoor marks in 19 events all-time at Emporia State with four school records.
Stella Agbokpah in the top five in two individual events. She has the school record in the 100m with an 11.41 at the ESU Relays and the 200m after running 23.07 at the Jo Meaker Classic. She is also a member of third ranked 4x100m relay that ran 46.16 at the MIAA Championships as well as the fifth best 4x400m that was clocked at 3:44.78 at the MIAA Championships.

Barbara Bentum is in the top five of three different events at Emporia State. She is ranked third at Emporia State in the women's 200m with a time of 23.87 set at this year's Jo Meaker Classic and the women's 400m with a time of 55.67 at the ESU Relays while ranking fourth in the 100m at 11.71 at the ESU Spring Open. She is also a member of third ranked 4x100m relay that ran 46.16 at the MIAA Championships as well as the fifth best 4x400m that was clocked at 3:44.78 at the MIAA Championships.
Lou Dumas moved into third all-time at Emporia State in the heptathlon after scoring 5059 points at the ESU Last Chance Multis and ran 14.21 in the 110m hurdles at the Alex Francis Classic to rank third all-time for the Hornets.
Mason Bina ran 2:12.86 in the prelims of the MIAA Championships to rank third all-time at Emporia State in the 800m
Harper Schoendaller threw the javelin 45.30m (148-07) at the MIAA Championships and is ranked fourth all-time at Emporia State.
Emma Bartholome is ranked fifth with a time of 11:54.30 in the women's 3000m steeplechase at the 2025 Midwest Classic. She is red shirting this outdoor season.
Madison Vermetten is ranked fifth with a throw of 52.47m (172-02) in the women's hammer at the 2025 Kansas Relays.
Ty Anderson is the school record holder in the men's 100m at 10.13 at the 2025 NCAA Championships. He is injured and has redshirted.
Emmanuel Dukpe is the school record holder in the men's 400m with a 46.29 at last year's NCAA Championships. He also ran a leg on the school record 4x400m relay that ran 3:06.66 at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Israel Domeh set the school record in the men's 200m with a wind aided 20.48 at the MIAA Championhsips. He also ran a leg on the school record 4x400m relay that ran 3:06.66 at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships and the fifth ranked 4x100m relay team that ran 40.30 at the PSU Almost Last Chance Meet this year.
Ezekiel Seamster is ranked second all-time in the men's 100m with a time of 10.25 at the ESU Relays and fourth with a time of 20.87 at the MIAA Championships in the 200m. He is also a member of the fifth ranked 4x100m relay team that ran 40.30 at the PSU Almost Last Chance Meet.
Jonah Remsberg is in the top five in two individual events. He is second in the men's decathlon with 7,033 points and is fifth in the pole vault after clearing 4.75m (15-07) both at the Jo Meaker Multis last year. He is injured and redshirted this year.
Dylan Hunter is second in the men's 10,000m after running 30:33.44 at the ESU Spring Open this year.
Trenden Collins is ranked second in the men's high jump after clearing 2.14m (7-00.25) at the 2024 Concordia Qualifier. He is recovering from a football injury and did not particpate in track this season.
Max Neeley is second in the men's pole vault after going 5.08m (16-08) at the 2025 Loper Twilight.
Alden Mollerus is third with a wind-aided time of 20.86 in the men's 200m at the MIAA Championshpis.

The Hornets had 17 athletes with 24 provisional qualifying marks in 16 events for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships.
Stella Agbokpah is third in the nation in women's 200m and ninth in the 100m. She ran a school record of 23.07 at the Jo Meaker Classic that converts to 23.14 at altitude in the 200m. She ran a school record 11.41 to win the 100m at the ESU Relays.

Barbara Bentum ran a time of 23.92 at the Jayhawk Spring Fling that is ranked #39 in the nation in the 200m. She ran the third fastest 200m in ESU history at 23.87 at the Jo Meaker Classic, but it converts to 23.94 for altitude.
Madison Vermetten went 45.65m (149-09) at the Midwest Classic for a provisional qualifier in the women's discus that ranks 54th in the nation.

Zach Sulzen-Watson is ranked 34th in the nation in the shot put after reaching 16.85m (55-03.50) in the shot put at the Grizzly Gold Invite.
Max Neeley cleared 4.97m (16-03.5) in the men's pole vault at the ESU Relays to rank 41st in the nation.

The men's 4x100m relay team of Seamster, Domeh, Wills, and
Alden Mollerus ran 40.30 at the PSU Almost Last Chance Invitational to rank 28th in the nation, while Lipgens joined Seamster, Domeh and Mollerus to run 40.40 at the MIAA Championships to rank 34th nationally.
The women's 4x400m relay team of Bentum,
Mason Bina, Agbokpah and Davie ran 3:44.78 at the MIAA Championships to rank 44th in the nation.
The women's 4x100m relay team of
Alexia Lewis, Bentum,
Mackenzie Sauerwein and Agbokpah are ranked 55th in the nation with a time of 46.16 at the MIAA Championships.
OTHER HORNET RETURNING PROVISIONALS
Kole Manley was fifth in the nation in the javelin in the regular season with a toss of 70.21m (230-4) at the ESU Relays that ranks third all-time for the Hornets. He is injured and redshirting this season.
Ty Anderson was ranked 11th in the nation in the 60m after running a school record 6.68 in the prelims at the MIAA Championships. He finished eighth in the finals with a time of 6.75 at the MIAA Championships. He placed tenth in the 60m at the 2025 Indoor Championships. He was also ranked 35th in the nation in the long jump with a mark of 7.29m (23-11) at the MIAA Championships and 40th nationally with a time of 21.42 in the 200m at the Washburn Open. He will red-shirt this season with an injury.
Jonah Remsberg was ranked tenth in the nation after winning the MIAA Championship in the heptathlon with 5,265 points. He is ranked second all-time at Emporia State in the heptathlon. He was also ranked 46th in the nation in the long jump with a mark of 7.23m (23-8.75) during his heptathlon in Colorado Springs. He will red-shirt this season with an injury.
Trenden Collins cleared 2.04m (6-8.25) in the high jump at the Bearcat Invite to rank 38th nationally. Collins will sit out the track season due to an injury suffered during football season.
Ally Trier was 32nd in the nation in the women's javelin with a throw of 43.34m (142-2) at the MIAA Championships.
