#30 EMPORIA STATE WITH 22-6 WIN OVER METRO STATE-DENVER IN HOME OPENER

Hornets with seven home runs against Roadrunners

February 10, 2017 - The #30 Hornets improved to 3-1 on the season with a 22-6 win over Metro State-Denver in their home opener Friday night. Emporia State had seven home runs on the day.

After the Roadrunners took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Hornets had at least three runs in the next four innings to go up 16-4 after five innings. Emporia State had another five runs in the seventh inning, allowing only two more runs the rest of the game for Metro State-Denver.

Mason Brown and Tate Kastens both hit three for five on the day. Brown had two runs and three RBI while Kastens had three runs and seven RBI. Brown and Kastens both had two home runs, Kastens with a grand slam in the third. Daniel LaMunyon had three RBI with a home run. BJ Dean and Levi Ashmore also had a home run each. Seth Holman improved to 2-0 on the season, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing only five runs in four hits. Holman had five strikeouts.

Wade Hanna broke into the top ten of career games played as a Hornet, tying Christian Drbal for tenth with 166 games.

Emporia State will face off Metro State-Denver Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1:00 p.m. to continue the series at Glennen Field in Trusler Sports Complex.
