April 19, 2024-Emporia State had three provisional qualifiers, two top three school marks, and qualified ten for the finals during Friday's action at the 101^st anniversary running of the Kansas Relays.
 
Mele Taula continued her freshman year assault on the Emporia State top five list as she was the top Division II finisher in the women's shot put.  Her mark of 15.02m (49-3.50) is third all-time at Emporia State as she moved past Cecilla Gunn (49-00 at the 1992 Texas Relays) on the Hornets all-time list.  She is behind multiple time national champions Heather Leverington (54-2.75 at the 2002 Pomona-Pitzer Invitational) and Kathy Devine (53-7.75 at the 1978 Drake Relays) on the ESU all-time list.  She is currently ranked eighth in the nation in the shot put.  She also placed fourth with a throw of 39.79 (130-6) in the javelin.
 
Abigael Reid inched her way up the Emporia State charts in the 400m hurdles.  She ran 1:00.66 to place third in the prelim and qualify for Saturday's finals.  It is the third best 400m hurdle time behind Deandra Doubrava (59.67 at 1999 Drake Relays and ESU Last Chance) and Gilliam Curtiss (1:00.02 at the 1998 MIAA Championships). She is currently ranked 11^th in the nation.
 
Lauren Carlson advanced to Saturday's finals in three events on Friday.  She was fourth with a time of 12.09 in the women's 100m prelims, fifth in the 200m prelims at 24.78 and teamed with Kadaisha Mpwo, Ashley Wildeman, and Clarice Nichols to run a 47.87 and qualify with the seventh best time in the 4x100m prelims.
 
Wildeman will join Carlson in the 100m finals with a time of 12.12 to rank fifth in the prelims.
 
In one of the few finals on the track on Friday Mason Bina, Catherine Lyon, Madeline Martin, Tayler Williams combined to run 13:01.40 and place third in the distance medley relay.
 
The men's 4x100m relay team of Kingsley Bennett, Carter Cox, Isaac Tarango, and Ty Anderson ran a provisional qualifier to the national championships of 40.68 and placed second in the prelims to advance to Saturday's finals.
 
Anderson and Bennett also qualified for the finals of the 100m.  Anderson ran 10.65 to win his heat with the fifth best time in the prelims.  Bennett advanced by winning his heat in 10.92, a time that ranked 17^th overall in the prelims.
 
Jake Johnson had the fourth best time of 53.32 in the prelims of the 400m hurdles to advance to Saturday's finals, while Jack Watson ran 48.23 to qualify for finals with the fifth best time in the men's 400m.
 
The foursome of Luke Gleason, Cooper Schroer, Tyler Swift, and Jake Johnson ran 10:28.05 to place fourth in the finals of the distance medley relay.
 
Saturday's finals will get underway for Emporia State at 11:47 a.m. with the women's 4x100m relay and will continue throughout the day until the men compete in the final event of the day, the 4x400m relay at 3:10 p.m.
