February 16, 2024-In the final competition before the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships Emporia State turned in 33 season best performances including a provisional qualifier to go with three event championships and eight runner-up finishes at the Friday Night Lights Last Chance meet at Northwest Missouri. The Hornets only sent sprinters and jumpers to Maryville.
Jack Watson turned in his second straight provisional qualifier in the 400m. His time of 48.30 was a non-converted personal best as he finished second in the event.
Josiah Driggers won the men's long jump with a season's best of 6.75m (22-1.75) while finishing second in the triple jump.
Luke Grace cleared a season's best of 3.20m (10-6.00) to win in his first stand-alone pole vault for the multi-eventer. He also placed second in the long jump.
The Hornet men also got runner-up finishes from
Jake Johnson in the 60m hurdles and
Carter Wagner in the high jump.
Ashley Wildeman picked up a win with a season's best time of 25.71 in the women's 200m.
Makenzie Owings had a season's best of 2:25.94 to finish second in the 800m.
Clarice Nichols was second with a season's best 5.45m (17-10.75) in the long jump while
Renee Nichol jumped a season's best 10.51m (34-5.75) to finish second in the triple jump.
The next action for the Hornets will be the MIAA Indoor Championships February 23-25 at the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility in Topeka, Kan.
