April 24, 2021-On the final day of the 111th Drake Relays Emporia State track and field recorded one event championship, a school record and three provisional qualifiers. The field events were especially strong for the Hornets on Saturday morning in Des Moines.

For the fifth straight meet Alyssa Conway had an improvement in the hammer and this time it resulted in a school record.  She threw 189-1 (57.63m) on her final attempt to break Laura Mayo's 23 year old record of 188-9 set at the 1998 NCAA Championships and finish second in the event.

Travis Morrison won the men's shot put with a mark of 55-4.25 (16.87m) for another provisional qualifier.  He fouled on his first two attempts and was in danger of not making the finals when he threw 52-11.5 (16.14m) on his third attempt to move into first place.

Madison Runnion moved into a tie for fifth on the Emporia State all-time list as she cleared a personal best and provisional qualifier of 5-7.75 (1.72m) to finish second in the women's high jump. Clara Eilert cleared 5-3.00 (1.60m) to place fifth in the high jump.

The Hornets had three top five finishes on the track Saturday morning.  Jenna Ramsey ran 11:18.33 to place fifth in the women's 3000m steeplechase with the third best time in Emporia State history. Linnea Meier had a personal best of 2:14.61 to finish fifth in the women's 800m.  The men's 4x100m relay team of Juwan Johnson, Jack Watson, Billy Ross Jr. and Hayden Goodpaster ran 42.38 to place fifth as well.

Emporia State will head to Hays, Kan. on April 30 to take part in the Alex Francis Classic hosted by Fort Hays State. It is the final meet before the MIAA Outdoor Championships on May 8-9 in Pittsburg, Kan.
