March 27, 2021-The Emporia State women placed second and the men fifth while earning four provisional qualifiers over the weekend at the ESU Relays. 
 
Alyssa Conway got things started early when she threw a provisional qualifier of 179-3 (54.64m) to finish third in the women's hammer on Friday night. She moved past Heather Leverington (173-8 at the 2002 MIAA Championships) into third on the Emporia State all-time list in the event. After Saturday's action she is ranked eighth in the nation in NCAA Division II in the hammer.
 
Megan McManis continued the strong start to her freshman campaign by clearing a provisional qualifying height of 12-2.5 (3.72m) to finish third in the pole vault.
 
Xavier Hall turned in a provisional time of 14.48 to finish third in the men's 110m hurdles. He is currently ranked 14th on the NCAA Division II performance list.
 
Travis Morrison wrapped up the provisional marks for Emporia State with another personal best in the men's shot put.  He became just the third man to go over 58 feet in the shot with a mark of 58-10 (17.93m) to place fourth in a loaded competition.  He is currently ranked seventh in the nation in Division II.
 
In addition to the provisional marks, Emporia State had three event championships and 14 total top three finishes. All three of the wins came in relays.
 
The men's sprint medley relay of Jamill Phillips, CarterCox, Brandon Rhone and Brice Helton ran 3:32.01 to win on Saturday while on Friday night the women's distance medley relay of Makenzie Tucker, Audrey Phelps, Linnea Meier and Nora Wheatley ran 12:48.53 while the men's foursome of Jared Reinke, Hall, Helton and Lucas Shryock turned in a time of 10:32.51 to pick up wins.
 
Jazmin Williams leapt 18-8.50 (5.70m) to place second in the women's long jump. Two relay teams also placed second.  Brandon Rhone, Jack Watson, Guy Ramos and Juwan Johnson ran 3:14.69 to place second in the men's 4x400m relay. Though not a provisional qualifier they are currently ranked seventh in the nation. The women's 4x800m relay of Sophia DeWitt, Jenna Ramsey, Tucker and Wheatley ran 10:07.64 to place second.
 
On Friday Ramsey finished third in the 3000m steeplechase and her time of 11:49.34 ranks fourth on the Emporia State all-time list. Emporia State also got third place finishes from Meier in the women's 800m, Matthew Maki in the men's 5000m, Madison Runnion in the women's high jump, and the women's sprint medley relay team.  Runnion's mark of 5-5 (1.65m) is not a provisional qualifier but is currently ranked ninth in Division II.
 
After hosting meets the last two weekends, Emporia State will not compete again until the Wichita State Open on April 10.
