March 26, 2021-The Hornets had a provisional qualifier and two marks that moved into the top five on the Emporia State all-time list on the first day of action at the ESU Relays at Witten Track/Welch Stadium.

Senior Alyssa Conway got things started early when she threw a provisional qualifier of 179-3 (54.64m) to finish third in the women's hammer. She moved past Heather Leverington (173-8 at the 2002 MIAA Championships) into third on the Emporia State all-time list in the event. As of Friday night she was ranked third in the nation in the hammer.

Freshman Jenna Ramsey had the highlight on the track for Emporia State.  She finished third in the 3000m steeplechase and her time of 11:49.34 ranks fourth on the Emporia State all-time list.

The only event championships on Friday night for Emporia State were in the distance medley relays. The women's team of Makenzie Tucker, Audrey Phelps, Linnea Meier and Nora Wheatley ran 12:48.53 while the men's foursome of Jared Reinke, Xavier Hall, Brice Helton and Lucas Shryock turned in a time of 10:32.51 for their win.

Matthew Maki ran 15:20.38 to finish third in the 5000m for the top individual finish by the Emporia State men on Friday.

With five events scored both the Emporia State men and women are in second place in the team standings heading into Saturday's full schedule. Field events begin at 11:30 a.m. with running events set to start at 12 noon.
