Tanner Raubenstine is in second place after day one of the heptathlon to highlight Emporia State's action on Friday at the Bearcat Invite in Maryville, Mo.

Raubenstine had personal bests in two of the four events on Friday. He opened up with a PR of 6.87 to win the 60m and also had a PR of 42-2 (12.85m) to place fifth in the shot put. He also had the best mark of the competition in the long jump, going 22-6.50 (6.87m) and ended the day clearing 5-7.25 (1.71m) in the high jump. He has 2,922 points after the first four events to sit in second place overall.

Aren Trost had the second best mark in the heptathlon shot put at 43-1.75 (13.15m) to move into seventh but a no height in the high jump cost him six places as he is in 13
th after four events.

Clara Eilert scored 3201 points to finish fifth in the women's pentathlon. She ran 9.84 in the 60m hurdles to start the competition in 11
th place after one event. She cleared 5-3.75 (1.62m) to place second in the high jump and move up to fifth overall after two events. She had a 29-9.25 (9.07m) in the shot put that dropped here to sixth overall before going 17-0.50 (5.19m) in the long jump to maintain that spot. She finished the day with a 2:36.06 in the 800m to move into fifth in the final standings.

Victoria Pettay scored 2854 points to place 11
th and
Kynzie Underwood placed 14
th with 2671 points.

The men's distance medley relay team of
Justyn France,
Jack Watson,
Lucas Shryock and
Rylan Brown ran a season's best 10:24.14 to place third. They moved into the top ten in the nation as of Friday night.

Matthew Maki ran a career best 15:12.39, shaving 34 seconds off of his previous best, to place tenth in the men's 5000m.

Hannah Showalter placed seventh in the women's 5000m with a time of 19:05.47 while
Kaitlyn Karjala ran 19:13.55 to place ninth.

The women's distance medley relay team of
Jenna Ramsey, Linnea Meier,
Makenzie Tucker and
Nora Wheatley combined for a time of 12:46.73 to place seventh. That time is currently 12
th in the nation on Friday night.

Allie Barrett picked up the other top ten finish for the Hornet women. She cleared 11-6.25 (3.51m) to place ninth in the pole vault.

Emporia State will continue action in Maryville on Saturday beginning with the final three events of the heptathlon at 9:00 a.m. in Hughes Fieldhouse.
