#15 HORNETS WITH WALK-OFF HOME RUN FOR 7-6 WIN OVER JETS

Daniel LaMunyon pinch hits in the bottom of the 12th inning for a walk-off home run

March 15, 2017 - The #15 Emporia State baseball team got their second walk-off home run in the last three games, defeating Newman 7-6 in 12 innings. Daniel LaMunyon had one at-bat to pinch hit in the bottom of the 12th, sending the shot to left center as the lead off hitter for the win. The Hornets are now 16-4 on the season.

Newman had hot bats to start the game, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Emporia State would not score until the bottom of the third, closing the gap 2-1. The Jets scored another four runs in the top of the fifth to take a 6-1 lead. Levi Ashmore scored on a Trevor Turner single, Hornets trailing 6-2 after five. Emporia State brought the game to within one run, 6-5, in the bottom of the seventh when they had three runs on three hits and one Newman error. BJ Dean led off with a solo home run followed by an Ashmore triple. Turner scored when Alex White singled through the left side. LaMunyon hit the walk-off after just two pitches from the Newman relief pitcher in the bottom of the 12th for the win.

Ashmore hit three for four with three runs. Turner and Perkins each had two RBI. Layne Downing picked up his second win in the last three games, improving to 2-1 on the year. Downing pitched 1.0 inning with one strikeout, allowing just one hit.

The #15 Hornets continue MIAA action on the road against Fort Hays for a three game series from March 17-19. First pitch of the series will be on Friday, March 17 at 5:00 p.m. on Schumacher-Nelson Field at Larks Park.
