January 27, 2024-Emporia State had four champions and two provisional qualifiers on Saturday at the Wilson Invitational hosted by Wichita State.

Travis Morrison turned in another provisional qualifying effort for the Hornets. He won the shot put with a mark of 17.40m (57-1) to finish nearly six feet in front of teammate
Zach Sulzen-Watson who threw 15.71m (51-7) to finish second.

Tyler Swift was a double winner for the Hornets. He took first place in the mile with a time of 4:22.05 and came back to run 2:31.54 to capture the 1000m title.

Isaac Tarango ran 22.53 to win the men's 200m.

Mele Taula had a provisional qualifier for the Emporia State women. She finished second with a mark of 14.14m (46-4.75) in the shot put. She is now ranked third in the MIAA and 17
th in the nation in the event.

Emporia State also had six third place finishes. For the women
Madeline Martin was third in the 800m at 2:32.72,
Catherine Lyon ran 5:34.91 in the mile, and
Clarice Nichols went 5.31m (17-5) in the long jump. For the men
Andrew Holton was third in the 400m with a time of 51.69, the foursome of
Cade Mann,
Luke Grace,
Coby Smith,
Aren Trost ran 3:28.89 in the 4x400m relay, and
Aaron Hunt cleared 4.45m (14-7) to finish third on misses in the pole vault.

The Hornets will be back in action next weekend at the WU Open in Topeka. Action begins on Friday and wraps up on Saturday at the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility.
