Second consecutive end of season ranking for the Hornets

December 6, 2022 – The United Soccer Coaches released their final rankings and Emporia State finished the season ranked #16 in the nation. It is the second consecutive season the Hornets have been ranked in the final poll of the season.

The Hornets went 13-6-5, including a pair of wins in the NCAA Division II Central Regional as they advanced to their first Central Regional Championship in program history. In addition to advancing to their first regional championship, Emporia State set a single-season record with 41 assists on the season and 57 goals scored ranks second in a single-season.

Five Hornets – Mackenzie Dimarco, Hannah Woolery, Joanie Westcoat, Aislinn Hughes and Abby Bachman earned All-MIAA honors, while Dimarco, Woolery and Westcoat were named All-Region. Dimarco and Woolery were both named First Team All-American by D2CCA while Dimarco also earned Second Team All-American from the United Soccer Coaches.

In addition to the on-field success of the Hornets, Emporia State had a total of 12 student-athletes recognized for their work in the classroom, highlighted by Dimarco, Woolery and Hughes being named MIAA Scholar-Athletes for maintaining a 3.50 GPA in addition to earning All-MIAA honors. Dimarco, Woolery and Hughes were joined by Erica Self as they earned CSC Academic All-District honors. For the first time in program history, two Hornets were named CSC Academic All-Americans as Woolery earned First Team Academic All-American while Dimarco earned Third-Team honors.

The Hornets are slated to return four of their top five scorers for next season.
