September 12, 2025-Emporia State got in front early and cruised to a 3-1 victory against U-Mary in the Hornets home opener on Friday afternoon.

Peyton Pipes got the Hornets on the board in the 11th minute when she converted a penalty kick. Less than three minutes later
Madeline Bracy sent a rocket from just outside the keepers box into the upper right hand side of the goal to make it 2-0 Emporia State.
Hailey Gancarz made it 3-0 with just two and a half minutes left in the half when she gained control of the ball outside the box, attacked the keeper and made a move past her to put the ball in the middle of the goal.

Emporia State out shot Mary 11-3 in the first half with a 7-1 advantage on goal.Â

Rachel Gensch got the Marauders on the board in the 48th minute when she took a pass from Maicee Burke on the left side of the box and fired a shot into the lower right hand corner to make it 3-1.

Mary had a 9-4 advantage on shots in the second half and had the only seven corner kicks of the match but could only find the back of the net the one time.

Emporia State will be back in action on Sunday, September 14 when they play host to Northern State. Kick-off from the ESU Pitch is set for 12 noon.
