Emporia State Soccer Rallies for 3-1 Win over Northern State

Hornets scored three unanswered goals; outshot Wolves 17-4 in the match

September 14, 2025 – Emporia State soccer responded to an early deficit with three consecutive goals to clinch a 3-1 win over Northern State on Sunday afternoon from the ESU Pitch.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Emporia State dominated to opening 20 minutes, tallying five corners and three shots, but were kept off the board in the early going as Northern State was the first to score.
 
Following an injury break, the Wolves broke through with a goal from Jaylee Hofer to take a 1-0 lead on just their second shot in the 23rd minute. The Hornets did not take long to respond, as Megan Jeremias scored on an assist from Megan Kephart in the 29th minute.
 
The Hornets tallied two more shots before the break, but the two teams entered halftime tied 1-1.
 
Emporia State outshot the Wolves 7-3 in the first half, forcing four saves from the Northern State goalkeeper.
 
Following the break, Abby Bachman took matters into her own hands, scoring directly from a corner kick to put the Hornets ahead. With the wind at their back in the second 45, Emporia State continuously applied pressure to the Northern State defense, which ultimately resulted in a third goal in the 63rd minute.
 
Northern State was able to clear an Emporia State corner kick, with the ball falling to the feet of Aubrey Seltman in the midfield. Seltman delivered a ball over the top of the defense to Megan Kephart who played the ball down to Peyton Pipes who doubled the lead to make it 3-1 in the match.
 
Over the final 27 minutes, Emporia State continued their control of the match, sealing the 3-1 win on Sunday afternoon.
 
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State tallied 17 shots to just four for Northern State, while adding 12 corner kicks. Megan Jeremias, Abby Bachman and Peyton Pipes each scored for the Hornets while Megan Kephart had two assists and Aubrey Seltman had one of her own.

Emporia State travels west to take on Regis on Friday, September 19 as they play their next two matches in Colorado. Kickoff between the Hornets and Rangers is set for 7:00 p.m. MT.
