Emporia State posts 9-2 win at Washburn

April 11, 2017-The #14 Hornets jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back in a 9-2 win at Washburn in the first of three midweek Turnpike Tussles on the baseball diamond.

After a scoreless first Taylor Sanagorski delivered a three run home run in the second that plated Mack Gowing and BJ Dean for a 3-0 Hornet lead.  Kaden Shaffer followed with a single and went to second when Wade Hanna reached on a fielding error by Ichabod starter Quentin McGrath.  Levi Ashmore then made it 4-0 with a single through the right side.

The Hornets added three more in the fourth inning starting with Sanagorski's second homer of the day to lead off the inning.  Shaffer singled and went to second on a sac bunt by Hanna.  Ashmore then drove in Shaffer with a double down the left field line.  A two out single by Ryan McBroom scored Ashmore and gave Emporia State a 7-0 lead.

The Ichabods picked up a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth.  Bowe Behymer led off with a single and went to second when Riley Krane was hit by a pitch. Lance Barkley reached on an error by Dean in right field to load the bases.  Two outs later Gabe Franklin hit a single up the middle that plated two runners and pulled the Ichabods within 7-2.

Emporia State added two more runs in the sixth when Alex White extended his hitting streak to 18 games with a two out single and McBroom followed with a homer to left center to put the Hornets up 9-2.
