February 28, 2026-Emporia State had a runner-up finish, nine provisional qualifiers, and will be sending eight marks to the finals after Saturday's action at the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Pittsburg, Kan.
The women had a strong day with two school records, four provisional qualifiers and six top five marks at Emporia State while advancing five marks to Sunday's finals.
Stella Agbokpah continued her assault on the records books. The freshman broke her own school record in the 200m with a time of 23.70 to advance to Sunday's finals with the second best mark. She tied her own school record in the 60m, advancing to the finals at 7.57 for the fifth best time in the prelims.
Agbokpah will be joined in the finals of the 200m by
Barbara Bentum. She ran the second fastest time in ESU history at 24.52 to qualify sixth into the finals. She will also run in the finals of the 400m after running 56.17 for the fifth best time in school history in the event.
Mason Bina will join them on the track on Sunday after she qualified for the finals in the 800m. Her time of 2:15.69 is the tenth best time in ESU history in the event.
Emporia State scored points in the distance medley relay as
Brooklyn Nolte,
Arriana Johnson,
Alyana Wallace, and Bina ran 13:16.11 to place eighth.
Fresh off a fifth place finish in the pentathlon on Friday,
Isabella Davie ran the fifth best time in Emporia State history in the 600y but her time of 1:25.02 just missed the finals in ninth place.
Mia Manley also turned in a top five performance on the ESU all-time chart as she cleared 3.63m (11-11.00) to place tenth in the pole vault.
Luke Grace got things started for the Emporia State men by placing second in the heptathlon. His 5,146 points are the fifth most in Emporia State history. He started the day finishing sixth in the 60m hurdles but cleared 4.00m (13-01.50) for a third place finish in the pole vault and then finished second in a time of 2:56.70 in the final event the 1000m. He was joined in the scoring column by
Luke Hampl who place eighth with 4,320 points.
Ezekiel Seamster will be running in two finals on Sunday. He qualified with the third best time of 21.52 in the 200m while his 60m time of 6.76 is the eighth best time headed into the finals.
Emmanuel Dukpe ran 47.48 to qualify for the finals of the 400m with the seventh best time. In a show of the depth of the MIAA
Braden Lipgens also ran a national qualifying time of 48.13 but was 14th overall in the prelims.
The Hornets will start the final day of competition at the MIAA Championships in seventh place after six events in the men's competition and eighth after seven events in the women's competition.
Action begins at 12 noon on Sunday for the field events with activities on the track starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kan.
