October 14, 2025 – Emporia State soccer earned their second MIAA Athlete of the Week this season with
Mackenzi Goen taking home Goalkeeper of the Week recognition following the Hornets two shutouts last week.
In the first match of the weekend, the Hornets took on the Gorillas in Pittsburg and managed to play to a 0-0 draw despite playing down one player for the final 17 minutes, and two players for the final eight minutes. Goen played a key role in earning a point on the road, facing 14 shots and tallying six saves.
On Sunday against Missouri Southern, Goen again helped anchor the Hornet defense, facing eight shots and recording four saves for her third shutout of the season. In her career, Goen now has 12 career shutouts.
Emporia State will be back home this weekend, as they host Rogers State and Northeastern State from the ESU Pitch. Kickoff between the Hornets and Hillcats is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Friday, October 17.
