October 12, 2025 – Emporia State soccer ran their unbeaten streak to six as a first-half goal proved the difference for the Hornets in a 1-0 road win over Missouri Southern on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first 21 minutes of the match, Emporia State had the attacking advantage over Missouri Southern, recording the first five shots of the match. The Lions' first shot came in the 23rd minute, which forced a save from
Mackenzi Goen in goal.
The lone goal in the match was scored in the 36th minute, as
Megan Jeremias found the lower left past the Lion goalkeeper on assists from
Ruby Ryan and
Sammy Quiroz, giving the Hornets the lead. Missouri Southern forced a second save from Goen in the 39th, but Emporia State took their edge into the halftime break.
In the final 45 minutes, Emporia State tallied 13 shots which forced seven more saves by Missouri Southern. The Hornet defense withstood five shots, with
Mackenzi Goen tallying two more saves as Emporia State held on for the 1-0 shutout win.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State tallied 20 shots with nine attempts on goal. The Hornets' 20 shots were the most in a match since playing Missouri Southern on October 15, 2023 where they had 21.
Megan Jeremias scored her second goal of the season while
Sammy Quiroz tallied assist number two and
Ruby Ryan picked up her first career assist.

Emporia State will be back home next weekend, playing host to Rogers State and Northeastern State. Kickoff between the Hornets and Hillcats is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Friday, October 17 from the ESU Pitch.

The 4-0-1 start to MIAA action is the best MIAA start for Hornet soccer since winning their first five MIAA matches in 2021.
