May 29, 2021-Clara Eilert tied a school record on the way to All-American status to highlight Saturday's action for Emporia State at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
 
Eilert cleared 1.76m (5-9.25) to finish third in the women's high jump in Allendale, Mich.  She tied Jennifer Robinson's Emporia State record set when she won the 2010 NCAA National Championship in the event.
 
"Clara came through big time in the clutch," said Emporia State head coach Steve Blocker. "For an athlete that has never been to this meet, to nail it the way she did under such pressure was unbelievable."
 
Earlier in the day Emporia State's Travis Morrison finished tenth in the men's shot put. His throw of 17.18m (56-4.50) was tenth overall to miss the finals by one spot.
 
"We had some athletes that were here for the first time and we can take away a lot," said Blocker. "You can get exposed at the national meet for all that you are and all that you aren't. Getting here is a big accomplishment, but we've got to be better.  We need to find ways to get to this meet and to perform up to this level."
 
The women will finish the meet with six points and place 36th overall.
 
This was the final athletic event for the COVID shortened 2020-21 school year.
 
NOTES
The men did not score and snapped a string of 17 straight years in which they had scored at the NCAA Outdoor Championships
The women scored at the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the first time since 2014.
Emporia State has had either the men or women score in every NCAA Outdoor Championship meet since 1994, a span of 26 straight meets.
