January 30, 2021-Emporia State track and field teams combined for 14 top three finishes, four event championships, three provisional qualifiers and two marks on the school's top five all-time list during the Wendy's/Pitt State MIAA Challenge on Saturday in Pittsburg, Kan.  As a team the Hornet men placed second and the women were fifth.
 
Tanner Raubenstine scored 26 points to lead with two event championship and a provisional qualifier.  He won the 60m hurdles with a provisional qualifying time of 8.20 and captured the 60m with a time of 6.93 less than five minutes after the hurdles.  He also placed third with a mark of 22-10.0 (6.96m) in the long jump.
 
The 4x400m relay team of Brandon Rhone, Guy Ramos, Hayden Goodpaster, and Carter Cox ran a season's best 3:16.89 to capture the championship in that event.
 
Connor Young had the other individual championship as he ran 15:38.23 in the men's 5000m.
 
Travis Morrison had a provisional qualifying mark of 55-07.0 (16.94m) to place third in the shot put.  It is the fourth best mark in the men's indoor shot at Emporia State.
 
Emporia State had three runner-up finishes from the men as well.  Hayden Goodpaster was second in the 400m with a time of 48.97, Justyn France was second with a time of 4:26.40 in the mile run, and Nathan Ewing cleared 6-2.75 (1.90m) to place second  in the high jump.
 
As a team Emporia State scored 152 points to finish second to host Pittsburg State in the men's competition.
 
For the women Megan McMannis got things going in the field events with a provisional qualifying mark of 12-00.75 (3.68m) to place sixth in the pole vault.  It is tied for the third best mark in Emporia State history.
 
Madison Runnion and Clarice Nichols each had third place finishes for the Emporia State women.  Runnion cleared 5-4.25 (1.63m) in the high jump while Nichols ran 26.01 to place third in the 200m.
 
The Emporia State women totaled 61.5 points to place fifth in the team competition.
 
The Hornets are scheduled to compete next at the two day Bearcat Open on February 5-6 in Maryville, Mo.
