October 29, 2017- Emporia State volleyball won in straight sets over Fort Hays State on Sunday. The Hornets advance to 14-13 on the season, 6-8 in the MIAA.
In a match that saw 26 ties and 17 lead changes the Hornets were able to finish their home season strong. In set one there were 9 tie scores and 5 lead changes with the Hornets taking the set 26-24. Set two brought five tie scores and four lead changes with the Hornets taking the set 25-18. The third and final set saw 12 tie scores and eight lead changes with the Hornets taking the set and match with a 25-20 win in set four.
The Hornets were led by Karly Patton with 13 kills followed by Jordan Evans and Jamie Hauptman with 11 each. Yuchen Du led all players with 34 assists on the match. Allie Maloney led the Hornets with 15 digs followed by Kylie Acebedo with 14, Du with 13, Shelby Innes with 12 and rounding out the double digits, Jordan Evans with 10. Evan recorded a double double with her 11 kills and 10 digs. The Hornet player of the game was Yuchen Du with 8 kills on .438 hitting percentage with 34 assists and 13 digs falling just two kills short of another triple double on the season.
The Hornets will be back in action on November 4 as they travel to Warrensburg, Mo. to take on Central Missouri.
