May 14, 2016-Competing in the final regular season meet of the season, the Emporia State track & field teams combined for six provisional qualifiers at the Sam Williams Qualifier on Saturday at Welch Stadium/Witten Track.
 
Morgan Gilliland moved up to 18th on the national list with a career best of 47-03.75 (14.42m) in the women's shot put. 
 
Alec Garcia had a personal best of 52-09.50 (16.09m) in the men's shot for the Hornets.
 
Elizabeth Costello had a season's best mark of 136-09 (41.68m) in the women's javelin.
 
Morgan Brant cleared a provisional mark of 5-07.00 (1.70m) to win the women's high jump.
 
Carrie Kellie also had a provisional mark of 39—02.25 (11.94m) to win the women's triple jump.
 
Duke Tibbs won the men's 200m with a provisional time of 21.36.

Emily Schoenfeld did not provisional but ran 11:18.83 to win the women's 3000m steeplechase.
 
The Hornets will find out next week who has qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 26-28 in Bradenton, Fla.
