May 3, 2026-Emporia State had four runners-up, nine top podium finishes and 14 NCAA provisional qualifiers on the final day of the MIAA Championships in Pittsburg, Kan.
 
The highlight of the final day may have been the best men's 200m race in Emporia State history.  The Hornets captured second, third and fourth place with three of the top four times in Hornet history. Israel Domeh ran a school record 20.48 to finish second while Alden Mollerus ran 20.86 and Ezekiel Seamster was clocked in 20.87 to finish in third and fourth. Domeh broke Josh Schuler's ESU record of 20.75 set at the 2011 NCAA Championships. Mollerus time is the third best in Emporia State history while Seamster comes in with the fourth best mark for the Hornets all-time. The trio earned the Hornets 19 points in the team competition.

Emporia State literally started the day with a big mark as well.  Freshman Garyson Walburn unleashed a provisional qualifier of 66.87m (219-05) on the first attempt of the day in the men's javelin which was also his first throw this year wearing an ESU uniform.  It would be good enough for third overall while Brooks Lowe would throw 68.08m (223-04) to finish second and pick up 14 points in the team standings.

Connor Deters and Zach Sulzen-Watson both placed with provisional marks in the men's shot put.  Deters finished in fourth place with a mark of 17.98m (58-11.25) while Sulzen-Watson recorded a personal best of 16.93m (55-06.50) to place seventh.
 
Three Hornet men finished in fifth place in their respective events. Emmanuel Dukpe finished fifth with a provisional qualifier and season's best of 46.54 in the men's 400m. Max Neeley cleared a provisional bar of 4.92m (16-02.00) to place fifth in the pole vault. In addition to his placein the 200m, Seamster placed fifth with a time of 10.59 in the 100m.
 
All four of the Hornets relay teams placed in the top five of the MIAA with provisional qualifying times that rank in the top five all-time at Emporia State.
 
The men's 4x100m relay team of Seamster, Domeh, Braden Lipgens, and Alden Mollerus ran 40.40 to place third. It is the fifth best 4x100m relay in ESU history.
 
The Hornets ended the day with the third best 4x400m relay in school history. Lipgens, Domeh, Andrew Holton and Dukpe ran 3:08.77 to place third.
 
The women's team of Barbara Bentum, Mason Bina, Stella Agbokpah and Isabella Davie ran 3:44.78 to finish third in the MIAA with the fifth best 4x400m relay in Emporia State history.
 
Bentum and Agbokpah joined Alexia Lewis and Mackenzie Sauerwein in the 4x100m relay to turn in a time of 46.16 and place fifth. It is the third fastest 4x100m relay all-time at ESU.
 
Agbokpah had two individual runner-up finishes in provisional times for the Hornet women.  She ran 11.56 to finish second in the 100m and 23.17 to place second in the 200m.  She would be Emporia State's high point scorer with 20.5 points.

Bentum also placed in two individual events.  She was fourth in the 200m with a provisional qualifying time of 23.94 and placed seventh in a time of 55.77 in the 400m.
 
In addition to her leg of the 4x400m relay, Bina placed fourth with a time of 2:13.94 in the 800m.
 
Arriana Johnson ran 1:03.25 to place fifth in the 400m hurdles with the tenth best time in Emporia State history.
 
Harper Schoendoller threw a provisional qualifier of 45.30m (148-07) to place eighth in the women's javelin with the tenth best mark in school history.
 
Overall the men finished in fifth place while the women were in eighth. 
 
Selected Emporia State athletes will travel to Last Chance meets across the Midwest next weekend in an effort to improve and secure provisional qualifying marks for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships that will be held at Welch Stadium and Witten Track in Emporia May 21-13.  The Emporia State men and women currently have a total 23 NCAA provisional marks in 16 events, 11 of which are currently ranked in the top 20 nationally.
