Luke Grace is decathlon runner-up, four Hornets score in heptathlon

May 2, 2026-Emporia State had a productive Saturday at the MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Hornets had eight scorers, advanced six more people to Sunday's finals while producing four NCAA provisional qualifiers and three top five marks in ESU history along with a stadium record.
 
The day started with the Emporia State getting 15 points in the decathlon and12 points in the heptathlon.
 
Luke Grace finished second in the decathlon for the Hornets with 6248 points while Luke Hampl was fifth with a career best 5325 and John Henry placed sixth with 4450 despite not finishing the 1500m.
 
The Emporia State women had four people score in the heptathlon with two provisional qualifiers.  Lou Dumas recorded the fifth best heptathlon in school history with 4946 points to place fourth at the MIAA Championships.  Isabella Davie also hit the provisional mark with 4928 points to place fifth.  Scarlett Begley placed seventh with a career best of 4497 points and was followed in eighth by Ava Markley with 4339 points.
 
The Hornet men also got points from Will Allen in the high jump.  He matched his career best by clearing 2.04m (6-08.25) to place sixth.
 
Emporia State was able to advance people to the finals in three events on Saturday.
 
Mason Bina set a Pitt State Outdoor Track Facility stadium record as she had the top time in the prelims of the women's 800m.  Her time of 2:12.86 sends her to the finals with the third best time in Emporia State history.
 
Stella Agbokpah advanced to the finals in the 200m with a provisional qualifying time of 23.79 on Saturday.  She will be joined in the 200m finals by Barbara Bentum who ran 24.63 for the seventh best time in the women's 200m prelims.
 
Israel Domeh ran the second best time in Emporia State history in the men's 200m prelims. His NCAA provisional time of 20.89 is second only to Josh Schuler's 20.75 at the 2011 NCAA Championships. He will be joined in the finals on Sunday by Alden Mollerus who ran a personal best of 21.24 to qualify fourth and Ezekiel Seamster who was clocked in 21.47 for the fifth best time in the prelims.
   
The Emporia State men will have competitors in seven of the 11 men's finals on the track and eight of the 11 women's finals on Sunday.  Heading into the final day the Hornet men are in sixth place with 18 points while the women are in eighth with 12 points.
 
Championship Sunday starts with the men's javelin at 11:00 a.m. while races on the track begin at 2:00 p.m. with the men's 4x100m relay.
