May 1, 2026-It was a good first day of the MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships as Emporia State have multiple athletes in the top eight of both the decathlon and heptathlon with Hornets advancing to Sunday's finals in every running preliminary they competed in.
Luke Grace is in first place after day one of the decathlon with 3771 points. He started the day finishing second in the 100m in a time of 11.21 and then went 7.12m (23-04.25) to win the long jump. He finished second in the next two events, going 11.81m (38-9) in the shot put and clearing 1.94m (6-4.50) in the high jump. He finished the day with a personal best of 50.96 to finish third in the 400m.
Luke Hampl is in fifth place overall with 3094 points. His best placing was a third with a clearance of 1.79m (5-10.50) in the high jump.
John Henry is also in the scoring race after day one with 2764 points.
Lou Dumas is in second place in the heptathlon after the first four events with 3081 points. She won the first event of the day with a time of 14.42 in the 100m hurdles and was part of a four way tie for the second best mark in the high jump at 1.60m (5-03.00) to match her career best. She placed third with a mark of 10.81m (35-05.50) in the shot put and finished second with a personal best time of 25.49 in the 200m.
Three other Hornets are in the top eight after day one of the heptathlon.
Isabella Davie is in fifth with 2870 points. Her best placing was a tie with Dumas at 1.60m (5-03.00) in the high jump for second place.
Scarlett Begley is in sixth with 2751 points and
Arriana Johnson is in eighth with 2656 points.
Emporia State had two NCAA provisional qualifiers in the prelims.
Stella Agbokpah won her heat of the women's 100m with a provisional qualifying time of 11.67 to place second overall in the prelims. She advanced to the finals at 4:00 pm on Sunday.
Arriana Johnson ran a personal best of 1:04.56 for the sixth best time in the prelims of the women's 400m hurdles. She will run on Sunday in the finals at 4:50 p.m.
Barbara Bentum qualified eighth for the finals with a time of 56.63 in the women's 400m. The finals will be contested at 3:40 pm on Sunday.
Emmanuel Dukpe had a provisional qualifier of 47.00 to advance to the finals of the men's 400m with the fourth best time. He will run in the finals at 3:30 pm on Sunday.
Ezekiel Seamster was clocked in 10.50 for the sixth best time in the men's 100m prelims. He will advance to Sunday's finals at 3:50 pm.
In the only final on the track for Emporia State on Friday,
Dylan Hunter just missed scoring in the 10,000m as his time of 31:25.70 earned him ninth place.
Day two of the MIAA Championships will continue on Saturday starting with day two of the decathlon at 10:00 am at the Pitt State Outdoor Track Facility.
