April 24, 2026- Emporia State Director of Athletics
Steve Rodecap announced that the interim tag has been removed for Hornet softball coach and ESU Athletics Hall of Honor member
Megan Hill.
Â
"It is especially meaningful to name a Hornet alumna and Hall of Honor member as the leader of our Softball Program. Â I am proud to officially announce
Megan Hill as our Head Softball Coach," said Rodecap "She has done an exceptional job as the Interim Head Coach, leading the program with professionalism, energy, and integrity. Â She has earned this opportunity through her strong leadership and unwavering commitment to our student-athletes."
Â
Since taking over as interim coach last fall, Coach Hill has led the Hornets to a 26-15 overall record this spring with a 12-8 mark in MIAA play. Emporia State has clinched a spot in the MIAA Tournament with two weeks to go in the regular season and were among the ten teams mentioned in the first NCAA Central Regional Rankings released this week. As a team the Hornets are in the top four of the MIAA in batting average, slugging percentage and triples.Â
Â
"I am incredibly grateful for Steve and honored that he has the trust in me to lead the program. This is more than a typical coaching job for me; this university, the Hornet softball program and all of ESU athletics is something that I have an extreme amount of pride in," said Hill. "I am eager to continue working on finding the best student athletes to fit our culture and build our roster so we can get back to the top of the MIAA. I am excited for this opportunity to continue leading the BLACK AND GOLD!"
Â
This is Coach Hill's third season on the staff at Emporia State. Following the opening weekend of the 2024 season, Hill stepped in for the rest of the season as Coach
April Rosales was away due to doctor's orders regarding her pregnancy and helped the Hornets to a 30-15 record over the remainder of the season.
Â
Hill joined the coaching staff at Emporia State after spending four years as the head coach at Northern Oklahoma College I Enid, Okla. In her four years at NOC, Coach Hill's teams averaged a 3.36 team GPA and 38 athletes earned Academic All-American status. The 2023 season at NOC was the best season the program had seen in over six years, compiling statistical bests in record, home runs, stolen bases, team batting average and team ERA. In her four years at NOC, Coach Hill had 13 athletes earn all-conference honors.
Prior to Northern Oklahoma College, Megan was the head coach at El Dorado HS. She earned AVCTL Coach of the Year honors in 2017 and had 18 players earn All-League honors in her four seasons with the Wildcats. While Hill was in charge of the program her teams set school records for team batting average, most doubles in a season and most hits in a season.
Â
A ESU Athletics Hall of Honor member as a player, Hill graduated from Emporia State with school and MIAA records with 275 career hits, doubles, 52 career home runs and 216 career RBI. She was a two-time All-American for the Hornets at third base and earned All-MIAA honors all four years.
Â
"We have great confidence in Coach Hill's vision for the program, and under her leadership, the future of Hornet Softball is very bright," said Rodecap.
Â
The Hornets are back in action on Tuesday, April 28 before wrapping up the regular season against Washburn at the Trusler Sports Complex on May 2. Emporia State will then play host to the MIAA Softball Championship Tournament May 6-9.
