FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS ON THURSDAY
Emporia State will send a small group of sprinters and jumpers to Maryville to take part in the Northwest Tune Up on Thursday afternoon at the Hughes Fieldhouse. The meet was oringally scheduled to be held on the evening of Friday, February 20 but was moved due to scheduling conflicts in Maryville, Mo.
LAST LAP
The Emporia State men and women had a total of five provisional qualifiers and
Stella Agbokpah continued her assault on the Hornet record book during the 11th Annual Russ Jewett Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kan.
On Friday Agbokpah broke her second school record in two weeks, this time in the 60m. She ran 7.57 to better Latiyera Yeargin's mark of 7.61 set at the 2018 Herm Wilson Invitational. She would finish fifth with a time of 7.64 in the finals on Saturday. She also won the 200m with a provisional qualifying time of 24.15, the second best time in ESU history behind her own mark of 24.06 set the previous week.
Ezekiel Seamster had a provisional qualifying time of 6.79 in the men's 60m to advance to Saturday's finals with the fifth best time but did not run in the finals.
Shane Karajanis was fifth after clearing 4.45m (14-07) in the men's pole vault.
Israel Domeh was sixth in the men's 200m in a time of 21.65 while Seamster was right behind him with a time of 21.66 to place seventh.
On Saturday
Connor Deters had another provisional qualifier with a mark of 17.15m (56-03.25) to place sixth in the men's shot put.
The foursome of
Braden Lipgens,
Israel Domeh,
Alden Mollerus, and
Andrew Holton ran 3:14.89 to hit another provisional qualifier in the men's 4x400m relay as they placed sixth.
THE COACH
Seth Mischke is in his third year as the head coach for the Emporia State track and field programs. The Hornets have produced six MIAA individual champions and seven All-Americans in the first two years under his leadership. Before coming to Emporia State he spent one year at Chadron State. Eagle throwers earned five All-America awards and four RMAC Championships. Prior to Chadron State, Mischke spent 11 seasons as the head track and field coach at Black Hills State University. The Yellow Jackets produced two individual national champions, 18 All-America earners, 18 conference champions, and more than 100 All-RMAC honorees under his guidance. Mischke was the head coach at St. Cloud State for 12 years. During his tenure at SCSU, the Huskies had 44 All-Americans and one national champion.
PROVISIONAL QUALIFIERS
The Hornets have recorded 14 active NCAA Provisional qualifying marks this season. Seven Emporia State men have eight individual qualifying marks in five events iwth three more represented on two qualifying relays. Three Emporia State women have four active qualifying marks in three events.
IN THE MIAA
Emporia State has a top five mark in the MIAA in eight events from three different individual athletes and all four relays. The Hornets have a total of 21 top ten marks in the Association, 12 for the men and nine for the women.
Stella Agbokpah has the second best women's 200m at 24.06 at the Bearcat Invite and ranks fifth in the 60m with a 7.57 at the Gorilla Classic.
Luke Grace scored a converted 5119 points in the UCCS Pre-Holiday to rank second in the men's heptathlon.
Ezekiel Seamster is third in the men's 200m at 21.48 at the Washburn Alumni Invitational.
The men's 4x400m relay is fourth with a time of 3:14.03 at the Bearcat Invite while the distance medley relay is ranked fifth after running a 10:25.93 at the Bearcat Invite
The women's distance medley relay is ranked fifth after running 12:41.95 at the Bearcat Invite and the 4x400m relay is fifth with a 3:54.55 at the Washburn Open.
LAST TIME AT THE NORTHWEST TUNE UP/FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
With a limited number of athletes competing, Emporia State had two event champions at the Friday Night Lights On Saturday Last Chance Meet in Maryville, Mo.
Braden Lipgens ran 48.94 to win the men's 400m with
Bryson Turner running 49.53 to finish third.
Cade Mann placed third in the 200m with a time of 22.46.
Addy Scheve went 10.20m (33-5.75) to win the women's triple jump.
Josie Orear went 4.59m (15-00.75) to place fifth in the long jump

The Hornets are ranked in the top 25 of four women's events and three men's events in the Division II Event Squad Rankings.

HORNETS IN THE ESU ALL-TIME TOP FIVE INDOORS
A total of 16 current Hornets have a combined for 21 top five marks in 12 events all-time at Emporia State indoors.
Ty Anderson is the school record holder in the men's 60m at 6.68 at the 2025 MIAA Championships and fourth in the 200m with a 21.42 at the WU Open last year.
Jonah Remsberg is second in the men's heptathlon with 5265 points at the 2025 MIAA Championships.
Emmanuel Dukpe is second in the men's 400m with a 47.44 at last year's MIAA Championships.
Israel Domeh is third in the men's 200m at 21.26 at the 2025 MIAA Championships and fifth in the 400m with a 48.09 at last year's Bearcat Invitational.
Max Neeley is redshirting this season but is third in the men's pole vault after going 4.93m (16-02) at the Ichabod Invitational last year.
Connor Deters is fourth in the men's shot put at 17.61m (57' 9.5) at this year's Bearcat Invite.
Dylan Hunter is fourth in the men's 5000m after running 14:44.44 at the Washburn Open.

TRACK TOWN USA - DIVISION II STYLE
Emporia State's Welch Stadium and Zola Witten Track will host the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. It will be the fifth time that Welch Stadium has played host to the national championships.
Welch Stadium previously served as the host site for the National Championships in 1995, 1999, 2006, and 2024 with the first meet in 1995 bringing 450 student-athletes to Emporia. The 2026 meet is scheduled to bring 754 student-athletes, nearly 200 coaches and over 100 officials to the Flint Hills over the Memorial Day weekend.
The 2026 Championships are scheduled for May 21-23.
During championship week, the NCAA Committee will come to Emporia on Monday with the first practice time available on Tuesday. Wednesday of championship week will see a variety of coaches and officials meetings before the actual competition begin on Thursday. The meet will wrap up on Saturday evening.
After playing host to the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Emporia State was the site of the 2025 MIAA Outdoor Championships. It was the seventh time Welch Stadium has served as host of the conference championships since 1997.
UP NEXT
The postseason portion of the indoor schedule begins on February 27 when Emporia State travels to Pittsburg for the MIAA Indoor Championships at the Plaster Center on the campus of Pittsburg State.
