Box Score 2 January 30, 2026-The
Megan Hill era began with a pair of wins on Friday at the Lone Star College Challenge in Mansfield, Texas. Emporia State opened the season with a 5-2 win over Lewis and ended the day with an 8-0 win over East Central (Okla.) in six innings.
ESU 5, Lewis 2
The Hornets gave up a run in the first inning but would answer with a four run third on their way to a season opening 5-2 win over the Flyers.
Elina Bartlett started the big inning with a walk and went to second on a wild pitch.
Kinsey Perine followed with a one out single and both runner moved up on
Sydney Wagner's ground out.
Brooke Flewelling put Emporia State ahead with a two run single to left field.
Avery Brewer then took a 3-2 pitch over the wall in right field to give ESU a 4-1 lead.
Lewis got a run back in the top of the fourth when Anna Frafjord reached on an infield single, went first to third on a sac bunt and stole home to make it 4-2.
Emporia State picked up an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on back to back ground rule doubles by
Karli Wehunt and
Addyson Easter. With one out in the top of the seventh the Flyers got runners on second and third with one out before
Izzy Sloan struck out the final two batters to secure the win.
Brooke Flewelling and
Karli Wehunt both had two hits while Flewelling and
Avery Brewer each had two RBI.
Addyson Easter and Wehunt each had doubles while Brewer hit a home run.
Hannah Butterbaugh allowed two runs on three hits with three walks in 4.0 innings to pick up the win in her first collegiate start.
Izzy Sloan tossed 3.0 shutout innings, giving up three hits, two walks and striking out four to get her first save as a Hornet.
ESU 8, ECU 0 (6 innings)
The Hornets scored five runs in the second inning and
Chloe Wilson tossed a two hit shutout in an 8-0 run rule win over East Central (Okla.) in six innings.
For the second game Emporia State used a big inning early to take control.
Avery Brewer started the second with a single and went to second on a one out walk to
Leslie Ramos.
Hannah Butterbaugh singled in Brewer for the first run of the game. Ramos was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a ground ball to short as Butterbaugh advanced to third. She then stole home to make it 2-0.
Elina Bartlett doubled in Juliana DeLuna, who had reached on the fielder's choice, to make it 3-0 and
Sydney Wagner followed with an RBI single to make it 4-0. That led to a pitching change by the Tigers and
Kinsey Perine welcomed Addison Hughes into the circle with a walk.
Brooke Flewelling followed with an RBI single to center for a 5-0 Hornet lead.
That was more than enough for Wilson in the circle. After giving up a one out single in the first she retired 14 straight Tigers until Rylynn Truett led off the top of the sixth with a single and was left there.
Flewelling led off the bottom of the sixth with a home to make it 6-0. Brewer followed with a single and went to second on an error in left field.
Mallory Moore singled and sent pinch runner
Taryn Burkhardt to third. A wild pitch allowed Burkhardt to score and pinch runner
Sophie Herman to advance to second. Ramos walked on four pitches to put runners at first and second. A sac bunt advanced the runners to second and third and with a full count Herman scored on a passed ball for the eighth run and to end the game.
Brooke Flewelling was two for four with a solo home run and two RBI.
Elina Bartlett was two for three with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
Avery Brewer and
Mallory Moore each had two hits as well.
Chloe Wilson went the distance in the circle allowing two hits with two strikeouts and no walks in 6.0 shutout innings.
UP NEXT
The Hornets will play a single game on Saturday against Colorado School of Mines at the Fields at Station 63 in Mansfield, Texas. First pitch is tentatively scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
